We obviously couldn’t fit everything in there, but we hopefully hit the highlights, and in the coming weeks we’ll update the Features page to do a better job of covering what the video couldn’t. As always, feedback is welcome. Thanks!
Until now, Mocksup projects have only been able to accommodate one designer at a time. If two or more designers needed to upload their mockups to the same project, well, they couldn’t. But no more!
Enter “collaborators”
Now — for our users on Mega and Max accounts — in addition to being able to invite commenters to your projects via the “Manage people” page, you can also invite collaborators.
Collaborators can do just about everything with a project that an account owner can do — upload mockups, edit project and mockup settings, add and delete comments and notes, etc. In fact, the only things collaborators can’t do are delete the project they’ve been invited to and delete other people’s mockups.
We think this feature will be useful for small design shops, large in-house corporate UX teams and everyone in-between.
Fresh coat of paint
We also updated all of our marketing pages and created a new Customers page (if you’re logged in you’ll need to logout to see it) where we’ll collect all the nice things customers, blogs and fans say about Mocksup.
It was fun collecting those because I’d forgotten about several of them, and reading over people’s appreciation for our little webapp was a great motivator. Looking forward to adding more of them.
We pride ourselves on our uptime and are working directly with our host to get to the bottom of this morning’s problems.
We apologize to the users this is directly affecting and will update this post as we go through the process of learning more and getting things back to normal.
Update @ 10:13 am: We’re back up and closely monitoring things on the backend to make sure we stay up.
Update @ 1:00 pm: A quick technical post-mortem from Jim:
Early yesterday morning we received alerts of database transactions timing out. We restarted the database and web server and considered the matter likely addressed.
When these issues continued, we turned our attention to a recent upgrade of Redis from 1.2.6 to 2.0.4. This upgrade was performed in anticipation of a coming release, but was performed without properly updating the Redis client libraries in use in our application, and without testing the combination of our existing Redis client libraries with the new version of Redis in our staging environment. This is sloppy operations and release management and we apologize to everyone who was affected by our mistake.
To ensure that over-enthusiasm doesn’t trump availability to our customers and that this kind of outage never happens again, we’ve updated our operations manual. As a direct result, for our upcoming release we’ll be taking the site offline Saturday night, Feb. 5th, from 11pm – 1am. We’ll send out an announcement tomorrow to remind everyone.
